Yahoo! OMG Awards: Coolest Band, Female and Male Singer

The 'Coolest Band', 'Coolest Female Singer', and 'Coolest Male Singer', among other categories will be identified tomorrow in the upcoming Yahoo! OMG Awards!

Digital media company Yahoo! recently announced the launch of OMG! Awards which aims to recognize the most-searched celebrities on its newest and leading entertainment property in the Philippines.

"The Awards combine Yahoo! Search and rich news content from Yahoo!’s celebrity and entertainment news site, OMG! to recognize the top trending web celebs, those who have propelled to stardom in cyberspace and used the power of the internet to reach their fans"

The nominees are determined by Yahoo! Search trends. Celebrities with the most number of votes in their poll categories will win.

72 nominees in 18 categories

The categories for the most-searched award include OMG! Celebrity of the Year and OMG! Major Impact, while the winners for Hottest Actor/Actress, Funniest Comedian/Comedienne, Breakthrough Artist Male/Female, Awesome Young Actor/Actress, Favorite TV Host Male/Female, Amazing Newcomer Male/Female, Coolest Singer Male/Female, Coolest Band categories and Designer of the Year will be selected through popular polls. The poll site is located at http://ph.omg.yahoo.com/omgawards/

The Yahoo! OMG! launch party will be held at the Republiq in Resorts World Manila on June 21, 2011. In the recent presscon, Indie musician Johnoy Danao perfomed with passion while promoting love of country.

The nominees in the Coolest Band category are General Luna, Parokya ni Edgar, Callalily, and Up Dharma Down.

General Luna is "the newest all female, all Filipino rock band, a group of seriously gifted and drifted individuals who have both the looks and skills that kill." Parokya ni Edgar is "a Filipino band formed by college students that is famous for novelty songs and satirical versions of popular hits." Callalily on the other hand is a "popular original Filipino pop rock band fronted by Kean Cipriano that produced a number of chart topping hits." Finally Up Dharma Down is "an acclaimed Filipino rock band, praised by Tears For Fears bassist Curt Smith, which is seen to invade the North American rock scene."
