The biggest Battle of the Best College Bands kicks off 2010 with the Summer Buzz, a concert event and workshop combined.
Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool offers college students an opportunity of a lifetime to break into the music scene by rocking it out in front of a live audience while having fun.
In a recent installment of the Summer Buzz in SM Mall of Asia last May 29, 2010, Ebe Dancell, lead vocalist of Sugarfree, mentored the participants and audience with music writing lessons. The concert was also highlighted by the performance of Letter Day Story.
In an interview where I asked for his advise to new song writers who will experience less-than-successful results with their music, Ebe encouraged them to pursue because their type of music will eventually find its listeners.
Other amateur bands who performed include Firefly Parade, Gotoxy, Gracenote, Pop U, Rejected, Rhapzodee, Secret Arsenal, Soul Machine, Sushi Monster, and War Plan Orange.
A personal favorite of mine at this stage would be the mainstream music style of Rhapzodee. I feel that their music, stage presence, and style fit that of what 'Soundskool' is looking for.
On another note, I feel that Rejected could have joined a different band competition altogether, say, Muziklaban. I think their form of music suits more of that genre. :)
I am not criticizing their music or style, it's just a matter of finding your music fit.
Earlier this year, the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool Bus was launched as Nescafe began its search for the best college bands in the Philippines. It is a mobile recording studio which visited select universities to record instant entries.
The Summer Buzz was launched in SM Megamall last May 8 featuring 2009 Grand Winner Eevee. Amateur bands from Metro Manila and Cavite also participated. This was followed up in Cebu City where music lovers were also treated to a performance by local talents in SM Cebu last May 22.
All this was done as part of the first leg in a series of efforts to find the best college band of 2010. More schools around the country will be visited eventually.
"When we started NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool in 2005, we wanted to create a venue to allow the youth to show exactly how much talent they have and serve as a springboard to a rewarding future in the music industry. On its sixth year, NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool continues to be the event to watch for promising young talent out to shape the landscape of Filipino music,” says Eileen Rose Bangcoro, Marketing Promotions and Events Manager for NESCAFÉ 3in1.
Bangcoro adds that NESCAFÉ 3in1 Soundskool will be a rich learning experience for the participants as it will allow them to understand how it feels to perform in front of an audience.
